Hi, I’m Nicole.
I’m a Canadian writer, editor, and fact-checker based in Berlin.

I have eight years experience working at publications both big and small. As someone who spends most of their time in the magazine world, I’m drawn to big ideas and creative storytelling.

I write about health, culture and society. You can find my work in The Walrus, Glamour, Broadview, Maclean’s, Reader‘s Digest, Yahoo and VICE

At Work

In the years since I graduated from Toronto Metropolitan University’s journalism program back in 2016, I’ve had the opportunity to take on various editorial roles at Broadview, The Walrus and Toronto Life magazines.

I started my career as a fact-checker, which helped me become a Google wizard, pub quiz master and research enthusiast.

Today, I spend most of my time editing. I was an associate editor at The Walrus between 2021 and 2023, where I worked closely with writers to develop their ideas into feature-length stories for our website and print issues. I also edited our “Ask An Expert” series, which I co-created in 2021.

Throughout my time at The Walrus, I helped edit and launch three new web series: The Longest Winter, Hope You’re Well and Teen Walrus.

In 2022, I started working with informed, a Berlin-based startup creating the next go-to app for journalism. As a read list editor, I helped industry experts curate a selection of articles on topics ranging from tech to climate change.

I’m currently the interim digital editor at Broadview, where I edit web stories, produce a weekly newsletter and manage their social media channels.

In Life

When I’m not working, I’m usually travelling. I’ve visited 30 countries (and counting) and lived on three continents. I’m equal parts optimistic and masochistic, but always up for an adventure.

I love coffee, fiction, food, burlesque and hiking. In my next life, I’d like to be a florist.
